Roof repairs and new roofs

Will you repair my roof, or will you tell me I need a new one?

Roof Class Scotland always looks at repairing your roof first. In our own words: “We will only recommend a new roof where absolutely necessary.” Many roofs in Glasgow, Ayrshire and Argyll are older slate roofs with plenty of life left, and the problem is often a few broken slates, worn lead flashing or a blocked valley. If a new roof really is the sensible option, we'll explain why before you decide.

What types of roof do you work on?

We work on slate roofs, tiled roofs and flat roofs, as well as chimneys, garage roofs and rooflines. Our work ranges from a couple of tiles needing replacing to a full brand new roof. We also repair or replace fascias and soffits and carry out roughcasting and sandstone work. See all of our roofing services in Glasgow and the west of Scotland.

Do you repair slate roofs on older and period homes?

Yes. Slate roof repair is one of the jobs Roof Class Scotland does most. We replace slipped, cracked and missing slates, renew lead flashing around chimney stacks, valleys and abutments, and repair slate valleys on stone-built period properties and Victorian villas across Glasgow and Ayrshire. You can see examples on our our roofing work page.

Can you find where a leak is coming from?

Yes. We carry out leak detection and roof inspections. Water often shows up inside some distance from where it gets in, so we check the slates or tiles, the lead flashing, the chimney, the valleys and the gutters to find the actual cause before recommending a repair.

Do you repair chimneys?

Yes. Roof Class Scotland repairs chimneys, including renewing the lead flashing where the chimney stack meets the roof, which is one of the most common places for a leak to start on a Scottish slate roof.

What materials do you use on a new roof or repair?

Depending on the job, we use natural slates, roof tiles, lead flashing, breathable roofing membrane, treated battens, timber, eaves protection trays and silicone sealing. Your written quote sets out the materials we'll use on your roof.

Roofing costs and payment

How much does a roof repair or new roof cost?

Every roof is different, so Roof Class Scotland gives you an exact price after we've visited and looked at it. Smaller repairs cost far less than a full new roof, and your written quote sets out exactly what the work will cost before anything starts.

Is there a charge for a quote?

No, quotes are free.

After the visit you get a written quote that sets out the work we recommend and the materials we'll use, so you know exactly what you're agreeing to.

Is there a call-out charge?

No, there is no call-out charge from Roof Class Scotland.

Guttering and roof cleaning

Do you fit new gutters?

Yes. Gutter installation is one of the jobs Roof Class Scotland does most for homeowners in Glasgow, Ayrshire and the surrounding towns. We fit new guttering and replace old, sagging or rusted runs.

My gutter is leaking at the joints. Can you fix it?

Yes. We repair gutters and reseal leaking joints, using silicone where it suits the job, so rainwater runs to the downpipe instead of down your walls. Read our guide to the signs your gutters need repair.

Do you clean gutters?

Yes. Roof Class Scotland offers gutter cleaning, clearing out moss, leaves and debris that cause gutters to overflow.

Should I get the moss cleaned off my roof?

Moss and algae grow readily on slate and tiled roofs in the west of Scotland. As it builds up it holds water against the roof and washes down into the gutters and blocks them. We clean moss and algae off slate and tiled roofs, and we can check the slates, tiles and gutters while we're up there.

Insurance, guarantees and tidying up

Are you insured?

Yes, Roof Class Scotland is fully insured.

Is your roofing work guaranteed?

Yes, we offer guarantees on our work, with the length depending on the extent and type of the job.

Will you clear up after the job?

Yes. In our own words: “We remove all rubbish.” Old slates, tiles, timber and packaging are taken away and your property is left tidy.
